All About Mckenzie

"Hey!" screams Mckenzie.  "What?! What's wrong?" I ask.  "Oh we just passed some hay" she says.

She still wakes us up once or twice a night.  It's either because she had a bad dream or she's asking to go down stairs and start the day.  Most nights she's also the last of the kids to fall asleep.

Mckenzie's birthday celebration on July 4th with Wegners and Hamiltons.  This is her crown cake.

She has the occasional bad bowel day.  These days usually consist of many soiled underpants.  I'll admit that I'm not always very patient with her.  On many occasions she stops whatever she's doing.  Looks at my slowly and says, "mom I think I had an accident.  I think it's poop."  And instead of running to the bathroom to prevent further poop from getting in her pants she just stands and stares.  And then slowly walks to the bathroom.  We've been trying to teach her that she needs to immediately run to the bathroom at the start of an accident.  But we haven't got there yet.  While cleaning up messes she can usually tell that I'm pretty ticked off by another poopy pair of underpants.  Then she'll sweetly say, "mom I forgive you."  What she means to say is, "mom please forgive me for poopy my pants again." But it actually has worked out better that she's offering my forgiveness first since I'm the one often losing my patient all too quickly with this innocent girl who cannot help her bowel issues.

Her generosity is surprising and amazing.  Whether is her own money, food, or toys she's more often than not teaching me about how to think of others.  A few days ago the kids saw me eating tuna with crackers.  Well they all love crackers and hate tuna.  A prerequisite for getting a plain cracker was first eating a cracker with a small amount of tuna on it.  Mckenzie was the only kid that did this.  She ate the tuna cracker and then received a plain cracker.  After seeing how mad Channing was about not getting his own cracker she broke her cracker in half and gave half to Channing.

Opening presents in Brian Head, Ut.

Her current hobbies include collecting rolly pollies, feeding her baby a bottle, coloring, making necklaces, playing with her miniature princess figurines, and playing make believe with Channing.

Mckenzie: "Mom when I'm an adult I'm gonna have a cat and a treasure."

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

Almost 3 Years Old

Isaac will be turning 3 years old in a few weeks.  This child is entertaining, friendly, funny, stubborn, sneaky, demanding, curious, silly, feisty, and talkative. He reminds me of my grandpa, Papa K.  Before Papa K's stroke he would constantly find random people to talk to.  I remember on a trip to Europe with Papa K, Dede, my mom, and Carrie we met lots of new people.  And at every possible opportunity Papa K would try and talk to these people.  Isaac seems to have inherited this liking for talking to complete strangers. Today on a walk around the pond Isaac spotted kids/teenagers fishing.  Naturally he rode his strider bike right up to them, hopped off his bike, and got right into a conversation.  He rambled on and on about who knows what until we had to make him keep riding. He also likes to yell, "stop! Hey stop!" at random strangers to get them to talk to him.  Today he stopped a couple who was walking holding a new looking baby an...
