These are a few of my favorite things....

Life is good and I want to remember how fun these days are.  Luckily we've had decent weather these past few weeks, although we've had some really cold and windy days too.  Living in Idaho I've learned to appreciate the nice weather days.  For example, I really enjoy taking Channing on a walk and not having my face and ears freeze from the cold and wind.  For our walk today I didn't even have to wear a coat! I much rather be warm than cold any day!
Random note...being sensitive to loud noises must get passed on in your genes.  As a kid (and teenager and sometimes an adult) I had to plug my ears when vacuuming, using a blender, or other loud noise type things.  Channing is exactly the same way.  He's okay with the vacuum but he'll start crying if you start a blender or lawn mower with him close by.  If I'm making a smoothie I have to send him into Justin's office or he'll freak out and cry.  Below is a prime example of Channing's noise sensitivity.  Here he's plugging his ears while Justin mows the lawn.  Channing keeps a safe distance from the loud noise.

As an adult with one kid I've learned a few things.  One thing I've learned involves blowing bubbles.  You think blowing bubbles is easy breezy? Not so with a 2 year old.  First off...only get the bubbles out if you have at least an hour to spare to sit outside and continuously blow bubbles.  This is not a one time thing...once the bubbles come out he will not want you to stop for a long long time.  Next, you must be okay with getting sticky.  Channing likes to help and blow the bubbles sometimes.  This sometimes means getting "bubble juice" flicked in your face on accident by your toddler sticking the bubble wand in and out of the container.  So why even get out the bubble container?  Because Channing loves it and being a mom sometimes means doing hard things.  ;)

As an adult with a kid I've also learned that going out on a date can change your life.  Okay not really.  But who doesn't love Johnny Carino's bread and seeing Insurgent (and having a Twix during the movie for dessert) and spending time with my best friend?  Living far from family we've had to be okay with getting a babysitter such as a 13 year old girl from our ward.  It's hard to leave Channing in someone else's care and hear him cry when we walk out the door.  But you know what?  He ends up loving it and having a blast with the babysitter and the next morning he's sad that the babysitter is gone.  Getting a babysitter = worth it.

Trying to carry all three of his diggers.

Channing requested to wear his sunglasses on our walk today.

And why not throw in a baby bump picture while I'm not overly ginormous.

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
