I've been meaning to write a blog post since Isaac was born. But every time I think about writing a post I get over whelmed with everything I want to write and all the cute pictures I want to share. So this blog post will just be about the day Isaac was born. (Or as much as I can remember! The details are already fading!!)
On May 14th, Mother's Day, my mom flew into Boise. Gotta have my momma as my labor coach! Let me just say, I was so happy that this was my last Sunday at church. Don't get me wrong, I love church, but at 39 weeks pregnant I was feeling super uncomfortable sitting or standing for the 3 hours. I was scheduled to be induced the next day, the 15th. After a rough night of not being able to sleep well, mainly because I couldn't shut my brain off, I called the hospital at 6am to make sure they had room for me, and they said to "come on in!" Yay! This was actually going to happen!
Justin and I arrived at St Alphonsus Maternity at 7am. My nurses name was Sarah and she was great. In the morning I got my IV, started my antibiotics (I'm GBS+), and they started my pitocin. The first time they checked me I was about 4 cm. Around 1pm my doctor came to break my water. After that I hopped in the tub for about 10 mins. Then I walked/stood around the room (they have wireless monitors, which I love). I started to feel some contractions and after about 20 mins they started to get more painful. The nurse started my bolus of fluids and called the nurse anesthetist to get ready to give me my epidural. By the time I was getting my epidural my contractions were super painful. But I figured my epidural would fix all that! I got my epidural but the contraction pain continued. Only my left leg was getting numb. The CRNA came back in the room and gave me another bolus of pain medication. But it didn't work. It was about an hour of horrible contraction pain before the epidural covered it. My lower back hurt so bad during those contractions! Thinking that Isaac might be posterior we flipped me from side to side every 15 mins or so to try and get him to move. The whole time while the epidural wasn't working all I could think about was "I better not feel this baby come out!" I was terrified that I was going to feel everything. I have zero desire to go "natural" during child birth. Who ever does that is crazy. Yes, I'm thinking of you Julia! ;)
I was so happy when my epidural was finally working. Apparently during that whole hour of trying to get the epidural to work my blood pressure dropped significantly and Isaacs heartbeat was having some variable decelerations. Luckily my blood pressure got better and Isaac's heart rate stopped dropping. I tried to rest for the next few hours while we let the contractions do their work. I felt exhausted after that intense hour of pain. I started to feel some pressure and cramping pain around 5 or 6 pm. The doctor came to check me and I was almost to 10cm. She gave me the option of starting to push then. But the cramping pain was very sharp and painful so I wanted to get that taken care of before I started pushing. And we needed Julia, my sister, to come be our photographer. Around 7pm Julia made it, the cramping pain had stopped, and I was ready to start pushing. At 7:18pm Isaac was born! He screamed and screamed and I was so happy he was here! What a relief!
Isaac was 8 lbs 1 oz and 22 inches long.

Nothing compares to the relief I feel when the baby I've been carrying for 9 months is safely born! |
My mom gave him his first bath. She's given every kid of ours their first bath! |
Something else to add...the after pains I had with Isaac were so excruciatingly painful! I felt like I was in labor again every time I would nurse him and get those cramping after pains. Way worse than any after pains I had with Channing and Mckenzie. Yikes! But all worth it, right!
Next I'll try to post about when the kids met Isaac and how things have been so far. They absolutely love him! Channing's favorite thing is when Justin makes Isaac "dance". We all laugh hysterically!
Something I loved while being in the hospital with Isaac was when my mom would send me pictures of the kids. Like this one:
The kids also loved spending time with their other Grandma, Joan. They made owls & critters out of some pinecones they found in the backyard. Channing didn't like us touching them. So for days they sat on our kitchen table with us!
Ha!! I just thought, I wonder if Mele has posted anything lately and Yes!! I love it when you write in your blog, I love your thoughts and stories and all the pictures. I too was so relieved when everything was over and both mama and baby were well... I sure love your growing family!!
