Living with a Nurse

After 4 semesters of school, and another month of intense studying - Melissa passed her Nursing Exam. She is now a registered nurse! Congrats!
It's only logical that a RN lives with me full-time. I wouldn't say that I'm a clumbsy person - but the scabs & scars on me would probably tell a different story, which Melissa would definitely agree with. The other day she said "Whenever I'm around you I feel like I'm about to get hit in the face." And then followed it up with "Maybe you shouldn't be working from home anymore."

I've been working from home doing sales since the new year. It's challenging! Well the job isn't challenging itself - any monkey could do it.
But just working from home & constantly being distracted. Melissa doesn't distract me, I find things to distract the both of us!
Exhibit A: I have a small slinky on my desk. I like to hold an end in each hand and see how close I can get to hitting things - such as my face. I've gotten good enough that I can control if I want to lightly tap an object or just come within a few centimeters. I suppose it's doing things like that which make it beneficial to live with a Nurse.

My most recent injury happened after spending 2 hours working on our SUV for one of my classes. You would think that I would've been hurt at some point while the car has been lifted 8 feet off the ground and I'm changing hot oil or messing with the suspension. Nope. It was at the end when I was WALKING to my car...I went down on the ice ripping open my jeans and scraping up my hand.
So Melissa had to patch me up after I got home. We'll see how long I last until the next time I need a nurse.

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
