Goodbye to August

As I write this it's a chilly mid-September day.  Channing is at school, Isaac is napping, and Mckenzie is playing in her room.  Even after living in Idaho for 10 years I'm still amazed by the daily change in weather.  While putting Isaac down for a nap this afternoon he dumped out his laundry basket and started playing in the dirty clothes.  I noticed that there was a swimsuit mixed in the heap of dirty clothes.  I do laundry pretty regularly.  Which means that in the last week or so we've gone from swimsuit weather to sweater weather.

It's no secret that Isaac is a challenging child.  Kyle (his cousin) knows it because Isaac bite his finger.  The little girl in stake conference knows it because Isaac smacked her on the bottom and yelled "bottom!"  Mckenzie knows it because she informed me that Isaac smeared yogurt all over his face and neck.  And I certainly know it because there are a good amount of ear phones in this house that no longer have the squishy ear buds attached anymore.

And yet with all his challenges he is just so so cute.  His dance moves make me laugh.  The way he yells/sings "I'm a Child of God" with me at nap time is so precious.  Yesterday he walked through the backyard holding a 7 foot long stick swatting at the grass to find hidden moths.  On every walk we take he will yell "hi" to any passerby.  And although he has now started climbing out of his crib, which means I will most likely lose what little sanity I have remaining, I think he's pretty adorable and worth the headaches.

A little over a month ago my foot started to hurt.  I tried to deal with the pain and do all the normal things like rest, ice, elevate, etc.  But it wasn't getting better.  I started wearing a boot which allowed me to at least still get some things done.  Eventually I did see a doctor that informed me that I most likely had pulled my peroneal tendon.  It's been slowly healing.  I can walk without a boot now.  And I've been getting back into working out.  But my workouts will look pretty different now.  The injury came from either running or jumping which is a main part of my workouts.  In order to not re-injure myself I'm going to stick with mostly strength training.  Which I'm excited to do!

I love seeing Channing grow up.  First grade had a rough start.  After the hype of the first week of first grade he started having anxiety each morning about leaving home.  He either missed me too much or felt left out from at home happenings.  It took lots of reaffirming that he's a good, smart kid and making some extra mom or dad time.  I'm happy to report that he's adjusted well to school life and things are going much better.

It's exciting seeing Channing learn to read, write, and do math.  I'm super proud of how much he's accomplished in the first month of school.  They really push these kids and he's stepping up.

I love smoothies in the summer!

My little kitchen helper.

He's discovered how to blow bubbles in his cereal bowl and he's never looked back.

This was Channing's picture day and Mckenzie's first day of pre-k.  She was so excited to go to school.

And then there's Isaac at home with me while Mckenzie is at pre-k twice a week for a few hours.  I think he's ready for school too!

We did a camping trip with some friends.  It was fun! The kids had a blast because camping as a kid is pretty close to heaven.

It's a Good Life

Happy Father's Day to Justin!  I honestly think he is the best husband and dad that I could ever ask for.  Did you know that when Channing wakes up randomly at night all I have to do it shake Justin awake and he'll go take care of it?  Yes, I am lucky.  Dinner was steak, asparagus, and bacon wrapped corn.  Mmmmm.  I love the new things Channing learns everyday.  The other day he saw me use an oven mitt and had to give it a try.   Yesterday I walked around the mall, shopped at Target, and got a strawberry limeade from Sonic.  It was fun.  But then Channing didn't want to take a second nap and was cranky all day.  Oh well.  At least half the day was awesome!  Yup, Channing still loves pouring water everywhere.  And sitting in it....

Merry Christmas

It was a white Christmas here in Meridian, Idaho.  On Christmas Eve we went to church for an hour and then came home and let Channing and Mckenzie each open one present.  We made peanut butter blossoms for Santa's cookies.  And we wrote letter's to Santa.  We also watched mormon messages about the birth of Christ.  For a few weeks the kids were earning pieces of straw to put in Jesus's manger.  Each good act or deed equaled a piece of straw placed in the manger.  Then on Christmas Eve we placed Jesus in the manger and talked about how all our acts of kindness created a nice, soft bed for baby Jesus to lay in.  It was a great visual for them.  (I got this idea from my Relief Society last year.) Making cookies. Mckenzie opened a book from the Crawford's.   Channing got a fort building kit from the Crawford's. Letter's the Santa.   These cute kids. Who knew Mckenzie wanted a puppy.... ...

Can't Wait To Be Done!

I'm really getting tired of school.  I'm almost done with my second to last semester of school.  Which means there is a lot of homework to finish in these next few weeks.  It seems that when I have homework to do I have a cleaner house because I'll usually clean before I decide to do homework.  I guess it's my way of procrastinating.  Other ways of procrastinating are: Checking on my garden to see what's growing.  Above is zucchini.  Buying a new bike! Making spinach and cheese quiche.  Playing peek a boo with Channing. Taking Channing to the park! It's been difficult to constantly have school in the back of my mind.  There's always some assignment I should be working on.  (I was just working on my physical assessment class and this blog post is my break.)  School has been great and I am grateful to be a RN.  I know school is important and I'm happy that I'll be done with my BSN in December!
