Trip to California 2019

Our family took a trip to California from March 10th-17th.  We loved our time together in Malibu.  Butterflies everywhere since they were migrating north.  Channing getting better at swimming.  Mckenzie playing with old doll houses.  Isaac entertaining family with his charm.  Staying up late watching movies.  It was relaxing and fun.

Sunday-Flew into LAX. Went to the Ostler's for a yummy dinner.  The kids loved running around and playing with their second cousins.  Then we drove to Malibu.  Isaac and Mckenzie fell asleep on the drive but woke up with lots of energy when we go to the condo.  Isaac's first few nights were a bit rough in a new place but eventually he went to sleep without crying.  Mckenzie and Channing did great sharing a room.
Check out the homes that were destroyed in the fire last November.
Monday- We took it easy in the morning. I ran up and down the hill by the condo about 3 times for some exercise.  The family took a walk.  Mckenzie and I picked flowers.  Mom met up with us at the condo.  Then we went to Malibu Country Mart to find a play area for kids.  It took forever to find the play area.  But eventually we did and the kids loved playing.  We ate some burgers and acai bowl.  Next we headed to Calabasas.  Justin fixed Deedee's printer.  Channing picked lots of lemons.  The kids wrestled with Papa.  Then we ate dinner and headed back to the condo.

Tuesday- We drove to Calabasas to pick up mom and then headed to the Autry Museum.  The kids favorite part was the green screen.  They had a saddle and different hats.  So the kids got to pretend they were in a real western movie.  There was also an outdoor garden that had many different types of plants.  We grabbed some chick fil a on the drive home.  Back at the condo we went swimming.  The pool is so nice and warm.

Wednesday- After lunch we headed to the beach.  It was a bit windy but still nice.  The kids loved playing in the sand and throwing the frisbee.  Isaac loves to roam and say hi to random people.  We also learned that Isaac hates the cold ocean water.  And the waves scare him.  But that's better than having to keep him out of the dangerous water.  Next we headed to the pool for some swimming.  That evening during dinner Isaac fell asleep in his high chair.  Poor kid was exhausted.  We let him sleep for a bit then I carried him to go to see Justin fly a kite with the kids.  The kite is huge and shaped like a rocket.

Thursday- We went to the Leo Carrillo tide pools.  It was an adventure getting there since we had to walk across a few cold streams of water coming from the mountains.  And it was super windy.  But we found a sheltered spot and the kids had lots of fun exploring.  The best part was Cici (mom) finding out that one of our pretty shells still had an animal living in it.  That was a fun discovery.  I was really craving some In n Out so we headed to Camarillo.  After grabbing some In n Out we went to the Commemorative Air Force SoCal Wing.  It was really neat to read about the different wars and all the planes that were used in them.  We went outside and got to go inside of some of these planes.  One of the planes had flown many times over the Himilayas which is also called "Flying the Hump".  I read more about it HERE.  I can't believe how many planes crashed in that area during WWII.

Friday- On Friday morning we headed to the Malibu Bluffs for a kids gold hunt to celebrate St Patrick's day.  It was more like a walk were they handed out different things like "liquid gold" which was apple juice, a gold painted rock, fruit snacks, and a squishy toy.  Then they had a story and music time.  It was fun to be out in the sunshine.  Isaac was fascinated by the tinkerbell they had walking around.  Later that day the kids and Justin went swimming.  Then Sylveen, Lucas, and Sugar came to say hi.  They showed us where the sand dunes were so Channing and Lucas could slide down them.

Saturday- Justin went on a drive with Isaac to get a part for the sliding screen door.  He also brought back Blinkie's Donuts.  The Ostler gang came over to go swimming and eat dinner.  We also celebrated March birthdays.  It was so fun to see family.  Then Justin and I stayed up late cleaning and getting packed.

Love all the old pictures.

Sunday- Woke up at 4am.  The kids were super out of it  Returned rental car, shuttle to LAX, left suitcase on shuttle but miraculously got it back after realizing the shuttle wasn't too far away and Justin ran to it.  Got the suitcase, flew home, Isaac is definitely not lap child size anymore.  Everyone was exhausted so we were happy to spend the rest of the day relaxing and taking naps.

That's all!  Loved spending time at our happy place!

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
