The Vacuum

We've had Jett for 1 whole year.  What in the world were we thinking getting a 12 week old puppy?  And it wasn't even Justin's idea!  I had been thinking about getting a dog for months.  I would tell Justin, "please remind me why it's a terrible idea to get a puppy."  And then we would discuss all the negatives to getting a dog.  And then the next day I would go back to thinking about it!  I could NOT get it out of my head.  Weird.

Click HERE for a post shortly after getting Jett.

I would peruse craigslist looking at all sorts of listings for dogs.  I knew I wanted a dog that didn't shed.  One night I found a listing for a springerdoodle puppy.  It was a slightly blurry picture of a very black, fluffy puppy.  I was mainly interested because it was a few hundred dollars less than other "doodle" breeds.  I started texting the breeder and set up a time to just come look at the puppy.  That was a joke.  Ain't nobody able to hold a puppy and not want to take it home!

I have no idea why I felt such a strong impulse to complicate my already busy life and buy a puppy.  We had an almost 5 year old. (We bought Jett a week or so before Channing's birthday which is why he thinks of Jett as his dog.)  A 2 year old that still had weeks of difficult bowel struggles.  And a 9 month old baby.  But seeing how much the kids love him has made all the poop worth it.  Seriously, why does he poop so much?

The other day I was driving Channing home from TKD class (he's an orange belt now!) and he said, "should my velociraptor robot be powered by electricty, batteries, or solar power?"  This question made me laugh because that's a pretty well thought out question from a 5 year old.  Also Channing is still obsessed with robots.  He decided that solar power would be best but also have a battery as back up.  Oh that kid.

Celebrating at Chick Fil A after his orange belt test.

Channing's kindergarten class.
Earlier this week Mckenzie was sitting at the table eating a snack.  I was cleaning up the kitchen when I heard her say, "Oh thank you vacuum."  She was thanking Jett for eating her crumbs off the floor.

I took the kids shoe shopping and finally got Channing new shoes.  His old shoes were terrible looking but he refused to wear anything else.  These shoes had multiple holes and plastic poking out.  I took a picture of them just to remind myself how hard he plays and how quickly shoes get worn out.  I think it's safe to say we got our money's worth out of these.

It has been either raining or snowing here for a few days.  I'm glad the kids and I got to have some fun in the snow.

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
