We Have a Kindergartner!

From July 28th to August 4th we went to McCall, Id for a Kenney family reunion.  The week flew by.  I don't know where the time went!  The kids loved hanging out with the cousins and second cousins.  They always had someone to play with.  The house was huge and had grass outside so the kids had lots of options for where to play.  We did boating on the Payette Lake, zip lining, white water rafting, and hanging out at the beach.  Channing loved sleeping in Cici and Papa's room.  Mckenzie loved tagging along with Grant and Jimmy and making necklaces with Emily.  And Isaac, well he wasn't so sure about all the new faces.  But occasionally he was happy, mostly when Justin and I weren't around.

On August 6th, only two days after our super fun week in McCall, Channing started kindergarten!  He has afternoon kindergarten from 12:55 to 3:55 with Mrs. Leach.  Gosh I love this kid!  He's been happy to go to school everyday.  He's come home a few times saying he doesn't like school but mostly he's happy to be with friends and have something to do.  It's a transition.  His favorite class is PE, of course.  He came home one day saying that he learned how to fight.  Haha!  He was showing me all shorts of moves, gotta put that kid in jiu-jitsu or something.

This is a picture of Channing on his first day waiting outside his class.  He wasn't too sure what to think.  Luckily he already knows like 5 kids from either church or preschool so he quickly perked up when a friend came to stand by him.  Channing and I spent a long time looking on amazon for the perfect backpack.  He finally chose a camo, water proof backpack.

Justin and I got to enjoy a great night out on the Crawford's boat.  Kid free might I add!  Although the water is freezing, in my opinion, it's always worth it to jump in and have fun wake boarding or surfing.  One day I'll look cool doing it!  Justin tried wake boarding for the second time since being in McCall.  He's way better than I was after only such a short time.  Although on this night out he totally ate it and hurt his knee and cut his head.  Yikes!  He's almost walking normally again two weeks later!  ;)

Almost every afternoon since Channing started school I'll fill up the kiddy pool and let the younger kids stay cool in it.  Isaac is totally a water baby.

Emily and Mckenzie, too cute.  I love their matching overalls.  Also, Mckenzie begged me for those flip flops.  She specifically said she wanted flip flops like Emily.  Mckenzie brought her last two pieces of money (two pennies) to give to Emily.

I got to check out Channing's classroom at a back to school night.  This is his cubby area.  There are only about 12 kids in his class.  I wish I was there to see how he acts in school around his friends.  I'm so curious!

Every night before bed I check on the kids.  I love how baby's sleep.  And those are 3T pjs....  Isaac is 15 months old and 30lbs.  The quote of the last few weeks has been, "I'm scared of my one year old."  Isaac is adorable and happy but he's also super energetic and crazy!  Last Sunday he threw a toy car over three pews!  Luckily no one got hit.  Just beware, if Isaac is holding a toy he might through it at you at any moment.  And it will hurt.

We braved the heat and walked Channing to school one day this week and he got to play tetherball with his neighbor friend before class.  I loved playing tetherball in elementary school!  And can I just say, I (Melissa speaking here) thrive on a scheduled day.  Not every hour scheduled but just having the consistency of having Channing go to school everyday makes the day go by so much faster.  I think I'm gonna like this kindergarten thing.... :)

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

Almost 3 Years Old

Isaac will be turning 3 years old in a few weeks.  This child is entertaining, friendly, funny, stubborn, sneaky, demanding, curious, silly, feisty, and talkative. He reminds me of my grandpa, Papa K.  Before Papa K's stroke he would constantly find random people to talk to.  I remember on a trip to Europe with Papa K, Dede, my mom, and Carrie we met lots of new people.  And at every possible opportunity Papa K would try and talk to these people.  Isaac seems to have inherited this liking for talking to complete strangers. Today on a walk around the pond Isaac spotted kids/teenagers fishing.  Naturally he rode his strider bike right up to them, hopped off his bike, and got right into a conversation.  He rambled on and on about who knows what until we had to make him keep riding. He also likes to yell, "stop! Hey stop!" at random strangers to get them to talk to him.  Today he stopped a couple who was walking holding a new looking baby an...
