Camping...And I Liked It!

Yes, you read that title correctly.  And I'm just as surprised as you are.  It might have to do with the fact that we camped in a trailer.  Which means staying warm when it's cold and staying cool when it's hot.  Pretty much like taking a house with you to the wilderness.  My kind of camping!

We went to Helende Campground which is about 2 hours away.  We left on July 5th and arrived in the afternoon.  It was blazing hot so I was happy to have AC in the trailer.  I feel like the moment we got to the campground the kids were covered in dirt.  But I honestly didn't care!  As long as their hands were fairly clean before they ate I was happy.

The first afternoon we were there the Crawford's generator kept quitting.  While the adults set up camp and figured out the generator the girls stayed cool in our trailer doing crafts.  Channing and Ryan rode around camp on their bikes.

The kids spent most of their time riding bikes, exploring the campground, chasing chipmunks, and climbing rocks.  Jett particularly enjoyed the chasing chipmunk part.  The campground was a large loop which was perfect for the kids.

The campground was pretty empty until the last morning we were there.  Which meant the kids could explore to their hearts content.  There was a water pump at the campground which provided a lot of fun.  The kids would pump water to drink, splash each other, or fill up a bucket.

My favorite activity was going to the Kirkham Hot Springs.  It was a bit of a nerve-racking walk down to the hot springs.  Especially with little kids.  The hot water coming from the mountain mixing with the freezing cold river water was a new experience!

We made great memories on this Crawford and Hamilton camping trip.  The cousins love playing together, we ate way too good, and everyone was safe and healthy!

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

Almost 3 Years Old

Isaac will be turning 3 years old in a few weeks.  This child is entertaining, friendly, funny, stubborn, sneaky, demanding, curious, silly, feisty, and talkative. He reminds me of my grandpa, Papa K.  Before Papa K's stroke he would constantly find random people to talk to.  I remember on a trip to Europe with Papa K, Dede, my mom, and Carrie we met lots of new people.  And at every possible opportunity Papa K would try and talk to these people.  Isaac seems to have inherited this liking for talking to complete strangers. Today on a walk around the pond Isaac spotted kids/teenagers fishing.  Naturally he rode his strider bike right up to them, hopped off his bike, and got right into a conversation.  He rambled on and on about who knows what until we had to make him keep riding. He also likes to yell, "stop! Hey stop!" at random strangers to get them to talk to him.  Today he stopped a couple who was walking holding a new looking baby an...
