I hate dinner time

I hate dinner time because it means listening to both kids whine about what I made for dinner.  Mckenzie doesn't typically whine, she just refuses to eat her food.  Channing on the other hand is very vocal about what's on his plate.  "Oh that's disgusting!"  "That's not my favorite!"  We've been working really hard over the last month or so to get Channing to try new things.  He's always been a poor eater and would prefer chicken nuggets or a peanut butter sandwich at every meal.  The rule over the last month has been that he has to try a bite of everything on his plate.  Sometimes he surprises us and does really well.  We had turkey meat loaf the other night and he actually ate a lot of meat (refused to eat his baked fries but ate meatloaf, weird kid).  Last night both kids did great with pizza.  I make homemade pizza a few times a month and kids seem to like it, as long as there is no evidence of vegetables on their bites.

Then there are nights like tonight....  Tonight I made teriyaki shrimp stir-fry.  It was really good.  Of course as soon as Channing saw what was on his plate he immediately said he's never going to eat it.  We reminded him of the rule that he has to try everything.  I usually put something on their plate that they'll actually eat like tonight it was blueberries.  So after Channing finished eating his blueberries Justin helped him eat a bite of shrimp.  After only a gag or two Channing chewed it up and swallowed it.  Success!  He said he didn't like it, but at least he took a bite.  Then came time for the rice.  Justin helped Channing take a bite of rice (that had nothing on it) and Channing started gagging as usual.  But then the gagging turned into him barfing up his dinner into his hands.  Oh how lovely.

So this is why I hate dinner time.  Yes I know, it's suppose to be this great time with your family gathered around the table.  But for me it's just a long fight that we usually lose.  One day maybe I can make a good meal and then have my whole family enjoy it without complaint, or barf.

It's a Good Life

Happy Father's Day to Justin!  I honestly think he is the best husband and dad that I could ever ask for.  Did you know that when Channing wakes up randomly at night all I have to do it shake Justin awake and he'll go take care of it?  Yes, I am lucky.  Dinner was steak, asparagus, and bacon wrapped corn.  Mmmmm.  I love the new things Channing learns everyday.  The other day he saw me use an oven mitt and had to give it a try.   Yesterday I walked around the mall, shopped at Target, and got a strawberry limeade from Sonic.  It was fun.  But then Channing didn't want to take a second nap and was cranky all day.  Oh well.  At least half the day was awesome!  Yup, Channing still loves pouring water everywhere.  And sitting in it....

Merry Christmas

It was a white Christmas here in Meridian, Idaho.  On Christmas Eve we went to church for an hour and then came home and let Channing and Mckenzie each open one present.  We made peanut butter blossoms for Santa's cookies.  And we wrote letter's to Santa.  We also watched mormon messages about the birth of Christ.  For a few weeks the kids were earning pieces of straw to put in Jesus's manger.  Each good act or deed equaled a piece of straw placed in the manger.  Then on Christmas Eve we placed Jesus in the manger and talked about how all our acts of kindness created a nice, soft bed for baby Jesus to lay in.  It was a great visual for them.  (I got this idea from my Relief Society last year.) Making cookies. Mckenzie opened a book from the Crawford's.   Channing got a fort building kit from the Crawford's. Letter's the Santa.   These cute kids. Who knew Mckenzie wanted a puppy.... ...

Our Thanksgiving

Days are flying by too fast and I cannot seem to keep this blog up to date.  We are already in the month of December!  November went by so fast.  I absolutely loved Thanksgiving with Jeff, Cortney, and Patrick staying at our house and my mom and dad visiting.  We ate some great food.  Cameron made a fantastic turkey in his smoker and all the sides were de-lish!  Some of my favorite moments were taking family pictures then going to chick fil-a for dinner.  Watching the new Spider Man movie with Jeff and Cortney.  Oh, and Jeff bought us all ben and jerry's, yup he's a good brother.  Shopping with my mom, sister, and sis-in-law.  Watching all the cousins play together.  My dad meeting Isaac for the first time.  Going out to breakfast with my mom and dad.  Channing's reaction to seeing Anna and Elsa characters at the Scentsy Commons Christmas lights--he's super bashful and his teenage years are going to be hilarious.  One...
