August...and the end of Summer

Oh August...I love Summer.  The only thing I don't like about August is that it leads to September, which leads to it getting colder and colder.  Oh well, life goes on.  This summer was really fun because I wasn't pregnant or didn't just barely have a baby.  We've gone on lots of family bike rides, playing outside, walks to the park, a family reunion in Park City, and playing in sprinklers.  Channing finally earned enough money to qualify him to get a power wheels four-wheeler.  He loves that thing.  I'm pretty sure he's driven it everyday since we got it for him.  I'm super proud of him too because he actually worked hard to earn that four-wheeler.  He would ask to do a chore, which in reality means more work for me, and then he'd either sweep, mop, clean windows, vacuum the car, or whatever I needed done that day.  We'd go to Walmart to grocery shop and he'd see a cool toy and ask if he could have it.  And I would tell him that he could buy the toy but the money would come out of the four-wheeler jar.  Then he would slowly put the toy back on the shelf....  That's some self control for a 3 year old!
Counting Channing's four-wheeler money.

In heaven!

After the first few rides Channing found this baby squirrel in our front yard.

We kept it warm until someone from the Boise Animal Rescue came to pick it up.  Apparently people actually bottle feed these babies until they are old enough to be on their own.  It was so cute!!

Mckenzie's new trick is that she is tall enough to reach our very low light switches and likes to turn everything on and off.

Cousins.

Leaf bug spotted!

Leaf bug caught!

Leaf bug dead...

:(
Other than the leaf bug incident I think this Summer was great!

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
