Newborn stage

During this newborn stage things are busy and you're usually tired, which for me means that it's difficult to remember the details of the day.  So I've started taking pictures of the little things I don't want to forget.

A fews days ago Mckenzie spit up all over herself, myself, and the carpet (which has become a usual thing for her).  While I was rinsing out clothes Channing was being a good big brother and showing Mckenzie his bouncy balls.  And then he wanted to lay on the floor just like her.  "I'm laying like Kenzie!" he said.

Every mom can relate to this...waiting for your baby to stop pooping.  Mckenzie looks very innocent as her bottom makes unladylike noises.  Man babies go through a lot of diapers!

I call this one the progression of sleep.  When Channing was this age I thought it was really weird that his face would go from sad to happy so quickly.  But now with Mckenzie I just imagine what she's dreaming about.

This girl is getting bigger everyday.  And this picture makes me laugh because I can just imagine her saying, "geez mom, not another picture!"

The other day Mckenzie was sleeping a ton during the day.  I'd have to wake her up every 2 to 3 hours and feed her.  And then she'd usually just fall back asleep.  I normally wouldn't mind this but I would much rather her sleep through the night...which is less likely to happen if she's slept all day.  Right before this picture I changed her diaper, nursed her, and then asked Justin if he'd burp her and try and keep her awake.  Apparently he was not the right person for the job at the moment.  This guy helps me when I need it at night and wakes up early and takes Mckenzie so I can sleep more.  He's the best dad/husband I could've ever asked for.

I snapped this picture a few nights ago at around 10:30 pm when we were all going to bed.  She sleeps in a rocker next to my side of the bed.  Justin said the blanket behind her makes her look like a butterfly.

This little lady is 3 weeks old today.  She takes 3 to 4 naps a day.  Goes to bed around 10 or 11pm and sleeps anywhere from 3-5 hours.  Then wakes up, eats, gets a diaper change or two, and then takes about an hour or so to fall back asleep.  Then she will sleep for another  2-3 hours on a lucky night.

Can't do a blog post with out talking about Channing!  His latest thing is asking everyday to go see the diggers.  There's a new construction site a few blocks away.  And Justin has taken Channing to see the diggers almost everyday for the past week.  This is heaven for a 2 year old boy!

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
