Dance parties, trucks, slides, and Daddy being wrong

Well it's already happening. Channing is starting to be right and I am wrong. I thought I'd have 10-12 years before Channing was right about everything.

Channing, as are most 2 year old boys, is really into diggers (excavators, backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, etc). Recently he's started to really like cement mixer trucks as well. He has a couple books that talk about it. Yesterday, I told him he could take one toy with him while we ran errands. He began looking for his "Concrete truck". I told him that he didn't own a truck like that. He kept looking. He eventually settled on bringing 2 small trains.

The next day after a successful Easter egg hunt he went to his toys and pulled out a cement mixer truck. He turned to me "Ooo, Daddy, concrete truck". I could see it in his eyes and face "I told you daddy. Just listen to me next time. I know what I'm talking about." Melissa seemed to enjoy that I was wrong as well.

Channing has a great memory and ability to understand things. As already mentioned, he is obsessed with backhoes. He saw one in a parking lot (because we're in Idaho and there are random tractors in public shopping areas) on Friday. For the next 5 minutes, he said backhoe a hundred times. We told him to just keep his eyes open for anymore.

Then while running errands the next day we once again saw a backhoe, but this time it was driving through the intersection. As we kept driving he said "More backhoe daddy. Eyes open. More backhoe." He was able to remember that phrase from the previous day after hearing it only once, and correctly apply it.

He's becoming an adorable creature of habit.
He knows that when we go into Sam's Club, there is a good chance we'll see a forklift. so he starts asking about it when we are parking. And apparently, we've had lunch too often with our Sam's Club visits at their cafe. He freaked out as we walked to the door without first getting a slice of pizza or pretzel.

Channing has been able to see me a lot more lately as I have been working from home. He'll often come into my office when he's hiding from Mommy. But he's learned that I'm often on the phone. So he'll open the door and just peak his head in to see what I'm doing. If I smile at him or put my finger to my mouth as to shhh him, he will get a big smile on his face and enter my office the rest of the way.
Usually he has a specific thing he wants to get from the office. He gets it, and then adorably waves to me as he leaves. Other times, he'll come and put his nose on my desk trying so hard to see what I'm doing. If I'm not careful, he'll snatch my wireless mouse (and once he snatched my keyboard). So I keep a spare mouse and keyboard around for him to play with.

We are moving at the end of the month to Boise area. We have a lot to do over the next couple weeks. Channing's schedule is also busy:

  • He's been practicing lifting up his feet on his strider bike
  • Being more adventurous on the slide
  • Having mini dance-parties on our bed

Although wary of an Easter egg hunt at first, but quickly realized they are awesome.
Then they became even more awesome when he realized there is candy inside.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

Almost 3 Years Old

Isaac will be turning 3 years old in a few weeks.  This child is entertaining, friendly, funny, stubborn, sneaky, demanding, curious, silly, feisty, and talkative. He reminds me of my grandpa, Papa K.  Before Papa K's stroke he would constantly find random people to talk to.  I remember on a trip to Europe with Papa K, Dede, my mom, and Carrie we met lots of new people.  And at every possible opportunity Papa K would try and talk to these people.  Isaac seems to have inherited this liking for talking to complete strangers. Today on a walk around the pond Isaac spotted kids/teenagers fishing.  Naturally he rode his strider bike right up to them, hopped off his bike, and got right into a conversation.  He rambled on and on about who knows what until we had to make him keep riding. He also likes to yell, "stop! Hey stop!" at random strangers to get them to talk to him.  Today he stopped a couple who was walking holding a new looking baby an...
