Climbing

The other day we went to use the pool at our gym.  I wanted to swim in the outdoor pool.  But we couldn't get Channing's rash guard on over his head and he was getting really fussy. We decided to go and use the indoor pool.  As soon as Channing saw the pool he kept saying "wa wa" and turned into a wiggle monster in Justin's arms.  We got in the water (which was super warm like bath water) and Channing got a little nervous.  He holds on really tight at first whenever we've taken him in a pool.  He warmed up a little to it.  But still wasn't very excited.  I think we need to get him some type of floaty he can sit in.  I've looked at two different Walmarts about a million times (more like two or three times) and they are always out of floaties!

We only spent about 10 minutes in the pool before he wanted to get out.  He walked around and found a door to the outdoor pool.  The outdoor pool felt much better because it wasn't overly warm.  And there was an aqua zumba class going on which was funny to watch.  Channing liked dancing to the music.

The latest news in our house is that Channing can official climb on the couch and the coffee table.  Just this morning I was doing dishes and Channing was playing in the living room.  He was being a little too quiet.  When I turned around I saw this:

Pretty adorable.  Of course he has one car in each hand.  But bad!  He can get on and off the couch okay.  But he tries to walk and jump on the couch.  And there have been a lot of close calls were he's almost fallen on his head.

Channing had successfully climbed onto the coffee table once about a month ago but hadn't attempted it again.  Just this last week he's been pushing the boundaries.  This is a usual thing to see (see picture).  He pretends to be playing with something and has one leg casually on the table.  And a very innocent face.  "I'm not trying to climb on the table mom.  Just stretching."

Then this morning I turned my back to him to check my phone.  I turn around and there he is, standing on the table!  Smiling and stomping his feet.

So what do you do?  He is just so happy when he climbs on things.  I'm not sure if I should put him in a time out or just say "Channing that's a no no."  I just don't want him to fall and get hurt!

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

60 Things I Love About My Mom

In honor of my mom turning 60 years old on February 5th I have written 60 things that I love about her. 1. My mom lives the gospel. 2. She taught me how to follow the prophet. 3. My mom loves to travel. 4. With each baby I had she took the time to be there.  And then stayed for at least a week following the birth to help me at home.  She even brought be breakfast in bed. 5. My mom always fulfills her calling.  I remember when she was Relief Society President she was gone on my 15th birthday at an Enrichment meeting.  I was a bit peeved about it.  But now when I think about it I am inspired by her ability to 100% fulfill her calling and show up for her fellow RS sisters. 6. She taught me how to cook.  We always had a vegetable on the plate. 7. She thoroughly adores her grandkids. 8. My mom can do hard things. 9. My mom is a RN which is no easy job.  I know her job is often stressful.  She's an amazing labor and delivery nurs...
