"Please stop!"

I want to be better at writing on our blog since I am seriously slacking at writing in my personal journal.  I know that memories can fade quickly when you're busy with life and I want to remember these days.

We are all happy that Summer is here.  Channing and I take a walk every morning and then we usually take a walk with Justin after dinner.  My garden is finally looking like a real garden.  We are growing pumpkins, zucchini, green beans, lettuce, and tomatoes.  Channing completely understands the words "outside", "shoes", and "hat".  The other day we had a babysitter watch Channing while Justin and I saw a movie and then ate delicious Cold Stone ice cream.  Justin was trying to explain to the babysitter about going outside with Channing but had to use words like "outdoors" and whisper the word "shoes".  It was so funny.  You learn pretty quick as a parent which words not to say in front of a 1 year old!

Chan-man had his 15 month doctors appointment this week.  He's a healthy 27 lbs and 33 inches.  The appointment started off great with Channing walking around the room, talking to the doctor, and being really friendly.  But that all changed when the doctor discovered that (beware:graphic words used) Channing's foreskin had reattached to his penis.  Which meant that the doctor had to pull it all back which was torture for Channing.  I've never seen him in so much pain.  As a mom I just wanted to die!  Luckily I was able to hold it together.  Now Channing is nursing a very sore pee-pee.  For the past two days it has been super red and sore looking.  Owie!!  When we change Channing's diaper I have to pull back that foreskin so it doesn't reattach and put ointment on it.  As soon as we start to take off his diaper Channing will start yelling "stop!" over and over again.  And this morning it was "please stop!"  (Tear jerker.)
Cuddly Channing after his appointment.

Today it looks a lot better but is still very painful for him.  It should be much better in a few days.

Since it's been so sore we've noticed that Channing hasn't been walking around like he normally does.  Instead he's reverted back to crawling.  When he tries to walk he'll often just bend over and start to cry.  Breaks my heart!  Last night after a warm bath we let Channing hang out naked.  And he LOVED it.  He was back to walking/running around and jumping on things.

Another problem we found at the doctors office is that he has an umbilical hernia.  It isn't very noticable (I've only noticed it a few times in the past) and will hopefully take care of itself by the time he is two.  We just have to make sure it doesn't get bigger or pop all the way through, because then he will need surgery.

On to another subject...I am so grateful for the priesthood in my life.  Justin gave Channing a blessing the night of his doctor's appointment.  I think it really helped Channing to calm down and not be in so much pain.  Tylenol can only do so much!

I promise my next post will not be so sad!! :)

Here's one of my favorite pictures from last week.  Channing was so excited to have his own chair.

It's a Good Life

Happy Father's Day to Justin!  I honestly think he is the best husband and dad that I could ever ask for.  Did you know that when Channing wakes up randomly at night all I have to do it shake Justin awake and he'll go take care of it?  Yes, I am lucky.  Dinner was steak, asparagus, and bacon wrapped corn.  Mmmmm.  I love the new things Channing learns everyday.  The other day he saw me use an oven mitt and had to give it a try.   Yesterday I walked around the mall, shopped at Target, and got a strawberry limeade from Sonic.  It was fun.  But then Channing didn't want to take a second nap and was cranky all day.  Oh well.  At least half the day was awesome!  Yup, Channing still loves pouring water everywhere.  And sitting in it....

Merry Christmas

It was a white Christmas here in Meridian, Idaho.  On Christmas Eve we went to church for an hour and then came home and let Channing and Mckenzie each open one present.  We made peanut butter blossoms for Santa's cookies.  And we wrote letter's to Santa.  We also watched mormon messages about the birth of Christ.  For a few weeks the kids were earning pieces of straw to put in Jesus's manger.  Each good act or deed equaled a piece of straw placed in the manger.  Then on Christmas Eve we placed Jesus in the manger and talked about how all our acts of kindness created a nice, soft bed for baby Jesus to lay in.  It was a great visual for them.  (I got this idea from my Relief Society last year.) Making cookies. Mckenzie opened a book from the Crawford's.   Channing got a fort building kit from the Crawford's. Letter's the Santa.   These cute kids. Who knew Mckenzie wanted a puppy.... ...

Can't Wait To Be Done!

I'm really getting tired of school.  I'm almost done with my second to last semester of school.  Which means there is a lot of homework to finish in these next few weeks.  It seems that when I have homework to do I have a cleaner house because I'll usually clean before I decide to do homework.  I guess it's my way of procrastinating.  Other ways of procrastinating are: Checking on my garden to see what's growing.  Above is zucchini.  Buying a new bike! Making spinach and cheese quiche.  Playing peek a boo with Channing. Taking Channing to the park! It's been difficult to constantly have school in the back of my mind.  There's always some assignment I should be working on.  (I was just working on my physical assessment class and this blog post is my break.)  School has been great and I am grateful to be a RN.  I know school is important and I'm happy that I'll be done with my BSN in December!
