Noteworthy News

It's not too often that a mistake costs tens of thousands of dollars. But the most recent noteworthy news involves such a case. Elevated dump truck bed hits traffic signals, power lines . A dump truck driver didn't realize he had the bed of his truck still raised as he drove down a busy street for 1.5 miles! "...He just thought there was lightning behind him as he drove along the road." Not sure how often I've seen lightning in a snow storm, but I probably would've stopped to watch it! " ...The driver was not intoxicated." Well that's too bad - at least he would've had an excuse then. How does he explain this to people? A teenage gal that I knew got in an accident shortly after she getting her license. She described her accident to people as "I just blacked out for a second and started hitting things. I couldn't stop."  I wonder what it would've been like to be sitting at one of the intersections as

Winter Driving

Well the snow was a bit of a surprise to wake up to this morning. So that means that I was able to shovel snow for the first time this fall/winter. Now that we live in an apartment complex (4plex) it's quite different. The only thing to really shovel are the stairs. Shoveling a driveway is a lot more fun than stairs. There are some sidewalks that I could shovel though. I'll probably end up doing that. With the snow comes a different type of driving. I enjoy driving in the snow usually. Was able to test out our Jeep to see how well the AWD works. One thing that I tend to do is drive with my tires hitting as much of the slush between lanes as I can. I figure I can handle it more than others - especially the small sedans that are low to the ground. So I drive through it so they don't have to. And of course it splashes everywhere - which turns me into a laughing fool. I'm always curious what others think when I do that (or when I'm laughing because of it.) I loo

Look at that head!

Our little boy is chugging along! We had our official 20 week ultrasound. The tech measured it being at 21 weeks in size! He's already ahead of expectations. However, when we were told that Melissa shot me a look that screamed "He better not be the same size as you and your head!" But as you can clearly see... it will. I'm guessing he'll be closer to being a 10lb baby like his dad! When the tech asked if we could see what the gender is we both said yes. Then she said "it's not that - that's the umbilical cord." Well thank goodness. Otherwise with a member that size it'd be a handicap!

Clumbsy Clumbsy

So occasionally I like to to walk around with my eyes closed as if I'm blind. I would like to think that my other senses are pretty acute. But that thought process was dashed as soon as I kicked the fan into the wall during the middle of the night. I should've known better. I am clumsy enough with all of my senses working. A large amount of my accidents happen in the kitchen. Burned flesh on stove a few times Shocked by the fridge - dropped me to the ground Turn the mixer on & fling food over all the walls Dropping a ban of food into the oven and most recently... I failed at being able to move something 2 feet from the microwave to the counter directly below the microwave. So I may as well just keep my eyes open and give me the best chance possible.

It's a ...........

Well we have seen the benefits of Melissa working at the Student Health Center --> free ultrasound. There is an ultrasound tech that Melissa works with that wanted to test her skills out on Melissa. So with an hour's notice I headed over to her work. There were 5 of us total in that dark room. An excited coworker of Melissa's, a tech in training, and of course the tech & us. At first the tech couldn't tell the gender. She said "We're looking for a turtle or 3 white lines." But there was a shadow in the way with how the little sour patch  was squatting. But the tech was 80% sure it was a BOY .  As the time went on, she increased that to about 95% certainty. She found the turtle . She let us take a video of the ultrasound. It was a dark room, so it isn't always a clear picture. It's almost 9 minutes long though. So if you have better things to do - here are a few highlights: Heart beating - 0:10, 3:35 158 beats per minute Baby shaking
