Ice Cream is for Sinners

I've lived in ignorance on so many subjects for so much of my life. But this new information is probably the most shocking when compared to all others. Apparently there is a US Holiday that I had never even heard about - National Ice Cream Day. President Reagan declared it a holiday in 1984.

If I grew up in Idaho, sure it may be socially acceptable that I didn't know about a holiday for dairy delights. But I'm from the dairy state (Wisconsin for those that don't know state nicknames.)

There are 2 reasons cited within the article (link above) why Ice Cream is for sinners:
  1. "More Ice cream is sold on Sunday than any other day of the week"
  2. "... he set aside the third Sunday in July to enjoy a scoop..."
Now certainly neither of these reasons alone are enough to draw my conclusion. But in response to #1: Get to church people! Honor the Sabbath. Saturday is a special day, a day to get ready for Sunday.
And also having the holiday on Sunday isn't bad either (other holidays exist on Sundays too), but #1 is probably a result of #2.

So the consumption of ice cream isn't a sin itself, but it could turn into a gateway sin, leading one to break other commandments (refer back to "Get to church people" line).

The article concludes by giving facts about ice cream, so I'll conclude by giving comments on facts about ice cream:
  • "Ice cream is just that treat that everyone needs, you know. (It) makes them feel good," Christiansen said.
    • I've heard the same argument applied to crack.
  • We scoop, lick, swallow more of the stuff during the months of July and August
    • Wonder if people are rubbing it on their skin for sunburn relief?
  • Highest per-person consumption in terms of age group is between age 2 and 12 and over 45
    • Is it just coincidence that these are the ages when people are either diagnosed with ADHD or have a mid-life crisis?
  •  The top three cities in America that purchase the most ice cream on a per capita basis are: Portland, St. Louis, and Seattle.
    • 2 of the 3 cities are in the Pacific Northwest... What's going on up there? Some sort of new liberal hipster movement?
  • 98 percent of all households purchase Ice cream during the year.
    • I don't understand why obesity rates continue to climb in America.
  • The U.S. state with the highest per capita consumption is Alaska
    • Maybe Alaska wouldn't be so cold if they all stopped eating ice cream.
  • On average, it takes 50 licks to get to the bottom of an Ice cream cone
  • Almost 13percent of men admit licking the bowl after finishing their ice cream
    • It all depends on how deep the bowl is vs how long the tongue is.
  • Only 8 percent of women lick the bowl after finishing their ice cream.
    • I bet it's a lot higher!
  • Nearly 5 percent of all people who eat ice cream share it with their dogs or cats.
    • These are the people in society that need more friends.

It's a Good Life

Happy Father's Day to Justin!  I honestly think he is the best husband and dad that I could ever ask for.  Did you know that when Channing wakes up randomly at night all I have to do it shake Justin awake and he'll go take care of it?  Yes, I am lucky.  Dinner was steak, asparagus, and bacon wrapped corn.  Mmmmm.  I love the new things Channing learns everyday.  The other day he saw me use an oven mitt and had to give it a try.   Yesterday I walked around the mall, shopped at Target, and got a strawberry limeade from Sonic.  It was fun.  But then Channing didn't want to take a second nap and was cranky all day.  Oh well.  At least half the day was awesome!  Yup, Channing still loves pouring water everywhere.  And sitting in it....

Merry Christmas

It was a white Christmas here in Meridian, Idaho.  On Christmas Eve we went to church for an hour and then came home and let Channing and Mckenzie each open one present.  We made peanut butter blossoms for Santa's cookies.  And we wrote letter's to Santa.  We also watched mormon messages about the birth of Christ.  For a few weeks the kids were earning pieces of straw to put in Jesus's manger.  Each good act or deed equaled a piece of straw placed in the manger.  Then on Christmas Eve we placed Jesus in the manger and talked about how all our acts of kindness created a nice, soft bed for baby Jesus to lay in.  It was a great visual for them.  (I got this idea from my Relief Society last year.) Making cookies. Mckenzie opened a book from the Crawford's.   Channing got a fort building kit from the Crawford's. Letter's the Santa.   These cute kids. Who knew Mckenzie wanted a puppy.... ...

Our Thanksgiving

Days are flying by too fast and I cannot seem to keep this blog up to date.  We are already in the month of December!  November went by so fast.  I absolutely loved Thanksgiving with Jeff, Cortney, and Patrick staying at our house and my mom and dad visiting.  We ate some great food.  Cameron made a fantastic turkey in his smoker and all the sides were de-lish!  Some of my favorite moments were taking family pictures then going to chick fil-a for dinner.  Watching the new Spider Man movie with Jeff and Cortney.  Oh, and Jeff bought us all ben and jerry's, yup he's a good brother.  Shopping with my mom, sister, and sis-in-law.  Watching all the cousins play together.  My dad meeting Isaac for the first time.  Going out to breakfast with my mom and dad.  Channing's reaction to seeing Anna and Elsa characters at the Scentsy Commons Christmas lights--he's super bashful and his teenage years are going to be hilarious.  One...
