Black Man Got Moves

Whooo, what a performance tonight! Melissa and I attended BYU-Idaho's concert Patriot and Pioneers. The orchestra and campus choirs get together and share inspirational, patriotic music. The guest singer was Alex Boye. Yep, that's right. One of the 2 black guys in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Turns out he does a lot more than gospel hymns though. He used to be in a Boy Band called Awesome in England. And he has legs like spaghetti! They look like rubber when he starts dancing. When he sings he uses jazzy, soulful, spiritual vocals. And he's quite the colorful performer (and that's not just a reference to his skin.) From the 4th row, we had the perfect position to see him gyrating across the stage and to hear the handicap person a few rows behind us adding commentary: "Oh good, we're all done" (said after the opening prayer haha.)

He shared with us his patriotic song "Calling America" which he began writing after 9/11. The song took him over 10 years to finish. He always felt a peace was missing. It wasn't until he gained his US Citizenship in Feb 2012 that he was inspired with the correct words to finish the song.

I went to the concert expecting somewhat of a mediocre performance, but walked away in the drizzling rain having thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Have you ever tried running (more like slow jogging) with a double stroller?  My suggestion is to avoid it...unless you're into pain and frustration. I'm a morning workout person.  And I'm not talking about waking up before my kids at 6am and getting in a workout--I'm not crazy.  I'm into doing my workout when it's convenient and I don't have to sacrifice too much.  For example I don't like to exercise when I:  Have to wake up earlier than normal.  Stay up later than normal. Be too cold/hot for a long period of time. Or listen to a kid cry/whine the whole time.     Right now I've chosen to walk/jog in the morning after breakfast and before Mckenzie's nap.  That way the morning goes by quickly and I get a workout in.  Justin and I signed up for a race here in Meridian and that's my workout motivation...hence the jogging with a stroller.  I'm pretty sure the double stroller ways at least 75lbs with the kids in it....

$$ for Jeeps

Well I've done it again - bought another Jeep. But this time it was Melissa pushing me to do it! (what a good wife!) It's a 99 Grand Cherokee Limited (we previously had a Laredo by the same year.) The people were originally asking $4200 but we Hamiltoned them down to $2800 thanks to Melissa. I was talking & negotiating with the husband. And then the wife comes out appalled that the husband was coming down so much in price. And she snapped and said she was firm on $3000. So Melissa stepped up and said "I wouldn't give more than $2800."  The tension was high as the 2 women shot dagger-eyes at each other. Neither one backing down. Finally the husband agreed. And we drove it home. Then 2 days later I decided to list our Cherokee for sale around midnight, by noon the next day (today) I had it sold. It's been a busy day. So in 2012 alone, I've now owned 4 different vehicles. Melissa is the hospital today. She is just starting her preceptorship in labo...

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.
