Moving away from Rexburg

Now that I've graduated, we took advantage of the possibility to move away from Rexburg. It's a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath home that we're renting in Idaho Falls. We like it.

Melissa ended up not feeling too great on the day of the move. But I kept pushing along.

The actual move went fairly smooth. A couple guys from Church came to help load up the uHaul. We filled most of the 20-footer within 90 minutes. And then 2 other guys from our new ward/congregation met us in Idaho Falls to help us unpack.

The primary living areas are pretty clear. But the 3rd bedroom is loaded with boxes right now. Maybe Channing and I will just keep it as-is to make some awesome box forts or mazes.

The home was built in the 50's, so it certainly has some peculiarities.

  • The hardwood floor feels like it has some dry-rot in the hall. I'm sure my foot will go through the floor one of these days.
  • People must've been much shorter in the 50's, the shower head is mounted fairly low.
    • Which is handy if you just want to wash from your neck down.
  • Difficult to keep heated - so the thermostat is set to 65 & we dress warm.
  • Phone & Cable lines were cut & removed. Luckily we found a pre-drilled hole in the concrete to push some new telephone wire through for our DSL.
But there's a lot of good things about it.
  • Our living room is big enough that we can have proper Dance Battles via the Kinect.
    • In case you couldn't tell, I have moves like an animal. The type of animal that would properly describe my dancing abilities best is a wounded hamster.
  • The kitchen and appliances have all been updated.
  • We have a large glass sliding door that Channing likes to try and kiss me through when I come home from work.
  • I get to come home for lunch! Work is only 2.5 miles away.
  • There is a garden area & raspberry bushes in our backyard (or so we've been told, we'll see what it looks like when the snow  has melted).
We're certainly excited for these new adventures that we're experiencing. And Melissa especially loves being located between 2 Sonics (both of which are located less than 2 miles away). Strawberry Limeades are one of the best summer treats money can buy!

My reality check

Remember how in my last few posts I talked about how we were teaching Channing to put himself back to sleep by letting him cry it out?  Since Channing has been sick for over a week that has all gone down the drain....  The poor kid is so congested all the time.  When we wakes up at night he usually will not take his binky and fall back asleep.  Instead he needs his nose suctioned, which usually requires Justin holding Channing's head still or it's impossible.  And lately he will not go back to sleep at all until he's fed again.  Last night it was every 3 hours.  I don't know if it's because his throat hurts or he just wants to be held.  Whatever the reason, nights have been a little rough around here.  Oh, and his naps during the day have been pretty bad.  Crying a lot before falling asleep and then only sleeping for 20 or 30 minutes.  Motherhood is definitely a 24/7 job.  With no lunch breaks.  And get this!  Channin...

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to do a quick Halloween post so I won't ever forget how adorable Channing was.  He was a scarecrow this Halloween.  We used a pair of his overalls and I sewed on a few patches of material and then we stuffed his pockets with straw.  The paint on the nose thing didn't work so well...he rubbed it off the first time around.  Our ward did a trunk-or-treat in the parking lot.  Channing was a little skeptical about it all when we first started.  But he quickly got the hang of walking up to people, grabbing candy, and putting it in his bucket.  Someone gave him a sucker and he immediately had to have it!  At least he's easy to please!  Such a friendly scarecrow...had to say bye to the trick-or-treaters as they left.

Almost 3 Years Old

Isaac will be turning 3 years old in a few weeks.  This child is entertaining, friendly, funny, stubborn, sneaky, demanding, curious, silly, feisty, and talkative. He reminds me of my grandpa, Papa K.  Before Papa K's stroke he would constantly find random people to talk to.  I remember on a trip to Europe with Papa K, Dede, my mom, and Carrie we met lots of new people.  And at every possible opportunity Papa K would try and talk to these people.  Isaac seems to have inherited this liking for talking to complete strangers. Today on a walk around the pond Isaac spotted kids/teenagers fishing.  Naturally he rode his strider bike right up to them, hopped off his bike, and got right into a conversation.  He rambled on and on about who knows what until we had to make him keep riding. He also likes to yell, "stop! Hey stop!" at random strangers to get them to talk to him.  Today he stopped a couple who was walking holding a new looking baby an...
